SCOIL MOCHOMHOG NAOFA .VS. GAEL SCOIL
On the last Friday of September, the 28th to be exact, Mr.McCullagh and his men all 29 of them got the bus into town to Thurles to play Gael Scoil in the first game of our group. We saw the Gael Scoil team pass. As we got to the field we went straight to the dressing room to get togged out . Mr. McCullagh named out the starting team.
After the team was called out we warmed up on the Astroturf . We headed to the main pitch moments later ready for action , when referee, Michael Jordan blew his whistle and threw in the ball and the game began. Gael Scoil had the ball and Tom Ryan scored a handy point . Max Hackett passed it to Brian Long and he held off 3 players and got us a penalty. Darren flood took it and drilled it to the left of the keeper who made a great save …….but Kevin Hayes stuck the ball in the net (HON KEVIN HAYES).Dee Maher scored a point . At half time it was 1-1 to 0-1.
At half time both teams were dying for victory . Gael Scoil had a threatening attack and we conceded a clumsy penalty .Taken by Paddy Stakelum, who placed it to the bottom corner but Owen Byrne, our goalie, pulled off a magnificent dive to save it to the ground , Oran Mulhall headed it over the bar .Mr. McCullagh sighed with relief. One the Hackett twins, Pat, scored a point. A further 1-1 from Darren Flood made it look safe . Mr. Mc Cullagh brought on 4 subs Liam McDonagh , Jack Morrissey , Michael O Donnell & Andrew Alexander O Shea. The game ended and victory was ours. Mr McCullagh and Gael Scoil teacher agreed for an extra 5 minutes for the subs. I gave an inch perfect pass into Dillon Ryan who scored a goal from it, 1 of 3 3rd class boys on the team. That was it and we were happy with our first win of the group.
