The focus for this year by the North Tipperary Development Company under their Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) is to facilitate the establishment of a North Tipperary Autism/ADHD network as well as working with dyspraxia/dyslexia groups– this to link into local groups that may currently exist in Nenagh, Thurles, Roscrea and Templemore or if not currently in existence to establish same.
The work carried out on the ground by the SICAP worker clearly identifies that following diagnosis a major gap exists where parents feel isolated and at a loss to find out basic information. The objective of the groups is to create a safe, caring and inclusive space for parents to meet with other parents to share information and self-advocate on behalf of their children and may include from time to time talks on relevant issues identified.
